Every single year entertainment and Hamburg’s major red-light district – the Reeperbahn opens all clubs and pubs for the Reeperbahn Festival guests. This year I was able to be a part of this largest club festival and had not only a lot of fun but was also able to discover many great musicians, attend in a Networking-Sessions and Showcases. I was also able to work as a photographer and made my first interview with the singer-songwriter – Brian Fennell (SYML).
1st day – Nettwerk goes RBF17
On Wednesday I was invited by Nettwerk Music Group – one of the largest and most influential independent record labels in the world, to its showcase. Presented were Current Swell (Canada), Vök (Island), SYML (USA) and KILL J (Denmark). All the performances were simply stunning and I think it depends on the music tastes, but my favorites are Vök and SYML – their music landed immediately on my Spotify Playlist.
2nd day – Hit the Fan: Rules Of Engagement
On Thursday I was attending few sessions, but the most interesting for me was the session presented by Wonderful Union – maybe it’s because fan engagement is one of the key not just of today’s music but also of instagram business.
I enjoyed very much listening to the great speakers like Jennifer Otter Bickerdike, who has over 20 years of experience working with tastemakers and cultural provocateurs and has authored books such as “Joy Devotion- The Importance Of Ian Curtis And Fan Culture”. The next speaker was Eddie Meehan – company president and co-founder of Wonderful Union. The company builds websites, manages fan clubs, facilitates fan experience on tours and handles infrastructure needs for artists like the Backstreet Boys, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. During the session the speakers were also Julia Ruzicka (bassist in noise rock band Future Of The Left) and Alison Fielding (Global Head of Creative for the Beggars Group).
3rd day – Festival Village and Liam Gallagher
On Friday Max and I decided firstly to spend some time at the festival village – perfect place during the festival to watch beautiful performances without the crowd, eat or drink something and at the end have a party in a School Bus with Bazookas!
Container Love at the Festival village: performance Emily Roberts
Our next stop was Docks – a nightclub in which Liam Gallagher made a great performance. It was such an amazing experience to stand so close to the lead singer of the rock band Oasis. Who doesn’t love the song Wonderwall?
